Safe Dining While Traveling Internationally
There are various dangers when on international trips that are always immediately noticeable. Some of the greatest dangers to yourself may be unnoticeable until after the fact. Some of these dangers can be found in food and drink that is readily available at popular tourist destinations.
Water might be drinkable in some areas, but it does not mean that it is clean. Make sure to invest in a portable water purifier or purchase purified water to drink on your trip. It is impossible to know what is in the water as many contaminants and parasites may be invisible to the naked eye.
Cuisine may be offered to you when you order at a restaurant that is locally enjoyed, but not regulated in certain areas of some countries. Make sure to always use your best decision making skills when ordering food in other countries. Obviously, eating food from street vendors may be more dangerous than ordering at an upscale restaurant. The best choice would be to go somewhere that is regulated and has vigorous standards for food preparation, even if it is a little bit more expensive.
Always make sure that you are able to get the best food that you possibly can. Always order your food well cooked and make sure that your beverages are not made with tap water; keep in mind that even drinks like slushy beverages that contain water can have harmful bacteria that our bodies are not used to and may not tolerate.
